Common Myths About Chiropractic Care - Chiropractic Care Is Only a Last Resort For Treatment

Just like anything else, waiting till something gets really bad is an unnecessary way to go about fixing a problem.

Our bodies are designed to send us signals whenever there is a problem. We call these signals symptoms, side effects or pain.

Many people think that traditional medicine is really the only way to deal with a medical issue. They may only resort to giving chiropractic care a try when nothing else has worked. What they don’t realize is that medicine isn’t designed to cure root causes of our pain. It is designed to be a stopgap and a pacifier.

When we take medicine and pop pills, whether it be over the counter drugs like Advil and Tylenol, or more serious prescribed drugs like narcotics, we are really just silencing the signals our body was created to send us when a greater problem is at hand.

Our Bodies Compensate to a Detrement.

Perhaps one of the greatest things our body does naturally is compensate when there is a deficit in another area. For example, after long-term deficiencies in posture exist, other parts of our body take the weight and the brunt of carrying the load for the parts that aren’t working at their optimum state.

Don’t be fooled, though. If the pain stops or lessens, often it isn’t because the problem was solved, it’s because of the compensation. What we will find down the road is the compensation can create a compounding effect on other parts of our body that weren’t designed to function in a compensative way for extended periods of time.

Surgery Can't Be Undone

When visiting a doctor, remember that if surgery or any type of surgical procedure is prescribed and recommended, surgery is permanent and can really be undone. Chiropractic care, however, can be a great way to catch problems early on so that surgery may not even be needed. Once surgery happens, it limits the number of alternative treatments that can be employed, and, in some ways, limits the level of positive outcome that can be achieved.

Long-Term Solutions That Last Take Time.

Just because you go to a chiropractor one time doesn’t mean that all your problems will immediately go away. The prescribed chiropractic treatment will, often times, provide immediate relief to a patient. Yet multiple treatments may be required for the body to return to its optimal state. Treatment don’t necessarily last forever. A good chiropractor will have an idea about the expected number of treatments necessary to deal with the root cause of your issue. Yet, just like eating right and exercising, routine maintenance can detect and treat many issues that the body may be facing, ones that you may or may not even realize are affecting you.

Further, a chiropractor knows how your body works together. So, when you have pain in one area of your body it may be caused by something totally different. Seeing a chiropractor early is best to help you better understand your treatment and path to wellness. Don’t treat chiropractic care as a last resort, but rather as an early response.
